Q: Is it time for a second opinion?

Absolutely! It never hurts to get a fresh set of eyes on a problem. For example, many who take medications regularly for chronic conditions like high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, fibromyalgia, and others, have been taking that medication for a while—and taking it without question. It’s what you do, right? A statin for cholesterol. A beta blocker for blood pressure. Insulin for diabetes … What if you could get off those meds?

The problem is, most medications used for chronic conditions mask symptoms instead of addressing the root causes of their conditions. What’s worse, people are led to believe genetics is the culprit and they are doomed to deal with their disease. Which is why second opinions are so valuable. Most people can reverse their chronic diseases, or at least improve their conditions, with better options.

Patients need to understand why they have their problem in the first place. And then I show them how we can beat it back. There is nothing like the look on a patient’s face who’s able to quit a medication because they just don’t need it anymore. We high five as they’re leaving the office.”

But are they cured?
Absolutely.

If we base it on the numbers—the same numbers that led to the original diagnosis—and we get those new numbers well below the original and we eliminate the need for medications altogether, is it a cure? I would say yes. But at the very least, we made an extremely dramatic improvement in that person’s life. Wouldn’t you?
