A New Vision
of Eye Care
Nearsightedness is on the rise, but Dr. Ashley Kimble is ready to fight back with innovative treatments and personalized care.
Need glasses? You’re not alone. Nearsightedness, or myopia, affects nearly 40% of the population today, a significant jump from 25% in 1971. Dr. Ashley Zak Kimble, optometrist and owner of New Vision Care, is determined to tackle the problem head-on.
“Our vision is getting worse, and we need to do something about it,” Dr. Kimble says. “By 2050, it’s estimated that half the world will suffer from myopia. This is an epidemic, and I want people to know they don’t have to accept it as inevitable. Myopia management is a huge focus for us.”
So, can New Vision Care cure myopia?
“Unfortunately, no,” she explains. “Myopia isn’t curable, but with the latest developments in optometry, we can slow its progression. For kids, the goal is to keep your child’s prescription from getting too extreme before their eyesight stabilizes. High myopia not only impacts vision but can also lead to serious complications later in life—such as increased risks of glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal tears, and detachments. Plus, it can limit future corrective options like LASIK or cataract surgeries.”
To manage myopia, Dr. Kimble’s practice uses a variety of innovative techniques. “MiSight is one. It’s a system of contact lenses, worn during the day, proven in clinical trials to slow down myopia in children aged 8 to 12 years old. There are contacts you can wear at night like retainers for your eyes. There are eyedrops. Just spending more time outdoors and decreasing screen times can help.”
Dr. Kimble’s passion for her work shines through in her dedication to patient care. “I got my start working a summer job for a local optometrist in high school, and that sparked a lifelong passion. Now, I get to meet new people every day and help them solve vision problems. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a patient smile when they realize they can see clearly again.”
Beyond improving vision, New Vision Care also focuses on style. “We help people look great too,” she adds. “My sister runs our eyewear department, which lets me combine healthcare with fashion. It’s amazing to do both!”
For Dr. Kimble, the mission is simple: help people see better today while protecting their vision for tomorrow.
“Our goal is to create a special experience for every guest,” Shannon adds. “We want people leaving saying, ‘Wow, I couldn’t have experienced this anywhere else!’”
Wave Hotel’s attention to detail has led to some truly memorable events. One wedding, for example, was a tribute to Comic-Con, with the bride and groom dressed as their favorite characters and a color palette of royal blue, neon yellow, and bright red. Videos of their favorite comics played throughout the event, making for a truly unique celebration.
Wedding cakes are more than just a sweet treat—they’re often a centerpiece of the day’s celebration, and at Lake Nona Wave Hotel, they take on a whole new level of artistry. The Comic-Con couple had their cake intricately designed to reflect their favorite comics. Another bride, known for her love of fashion, opted for a towering confection inspired by her elegantly ribboned shoes.
The creative genius behind these unforgettable cakes is master cake designer Lizandra Reilova, owner of Blush Sucré. Known for her ability to craft both visually stunning and delectably flavorful cakes, Lizandra’s creations are truly bespoke. Her signature flavors—like Bananas Foster, Peach Bellini, and Pistachio Raspberry—are as unforgettable as her custom designs.
Is there a wedding in your future? If so, let Lake Nona Wave Hotel be your where, and watch your dreams come to life.
