Everybody's Fave!

Teresa Raphael of My Favorite Tutor helps her students navigate college admissions with personalized, goal-driven support.

Many of Teresa Raphael’s students come to her after less than successful efforts with prior tutors. Concerned teachers often recommend her to worried parents. “I came to tutoring organically,” Teresa explains. “Back in college, some of my classmates would ask me for help with their courses. I wanted to help—and I was good at it. Word got around, and in the process, I discovered my passion. My ‘why.’”

Teresa began teaching in Florida in 2006 and brings all she learned in the classroom to her test prep business. It’s that training, plus having a master’s degree in education, that sets her apart from other tutors. She also maintains certifications in five areas: Elementary, ESL, Exceptional Student Education, Middle School Integrated, and High School.

She is certified in several areas, but most tutoring needs center around SAT prep. If a student needs help in something specific  that Teresa is less familiar with, she gets them the help they need.

“Much of what I do is college coaching,” she says. “I help students create a personalized plan and timeline based on the colleges they’re aiming for. Then comes the application process. From planning essays to finding scholarship opportunities, I guide them through it all. It can get overwhelming for both students and their parents.”

One of the first questions she’s asked is: How much does test prep cost?

“I tell them tutoring is 100% an investment in their future,” Teresa says. “With limited test dates and early deadlines on applications, a better SAT score can be the difference between receiving a scholarship—or not. We start by identifying the student’s goals and then make a plan to reach them. I provide structured instruction, proven teaching practices, and strong test-taking strategies before they ever sit for the SAT.”

The first consultation with Teresa is always free. She takes time to answer every question parents and students might have.  A frequent question that she often hears from parents: Is there hope for my child?

“I want families to know there’s a solution for everyone,” she says. “There are so many resources out there—and I’m here to help you find what you need for your student.”
