A group of Horizon West professionals trades office hours for rehearsal time, rediscovering their love of music and community. Meet The Remix—a band of familiar faces proving it’s never too late to turn passion into harmony and connection.

As kids, we’re encouraged to “find a hobby” or “stick with a skill.” So we pick up instruments, learn scales, master chords, and maybe—just maybe—dream of the spotlight. But then life steps in. Careers take off, families grow, bills pile up, and for many, that once-burning passion for music becomes a distant echo. Instruments gather dust. Jam sessions become “maybe someday.” The music fades.
But not for Audrey Houston and the members of The Remix. For them, two things have always stayed center stage: their love for music—and their love for the Horizon West community.
“I was at a networking event where everyone was talking about how much Horizon West has grown,” Audrey recalls. “It felt so connected, so full of energy. Then I found myself talking with Andy Ortiz, and we realized we both had this deep love for music. We just said, ‘Why don’t we get together and play?’”
That casual conversation turned into a spark—and that spark became The Remix.
With Audrey on vocals and Andy on guitar, the group quickly found its rhythm. Then came bassist Teddy Hilton, whose soulful playing adds heart to the band.
“Music is a form of self-expression,” he says. “It’s about taking pieces that shouldn’t work together and creating something beautiful. That’s how communities work, too. It’s messy at first—but when people come together, it just clicks.”
Rehearsals happen wherever there’s space and a power outlet—garages, community centers, even the back of office buildings. The setlist? A nostalgic mix of Queen, Journey, and ‘80s rock anthems. Their vibe? Pure joy.
But what makes The Remix special isn’t just their sound—it’s their story. These are local professionals, business owners, parents, and neighbors—faces you’ve probably seen at school drop-off, civic meetings, or the local coffee shop. What unites them isn’t a dream of stardom, but a shared belief that music is meant to be lived, not just remembered.
“We all have busy lives—jobs, kids, spouses—but this is what fills our cups,” Andy says. “Making time for something that feeds your soul? That’s what it’s all about.”
And it’s not just about the music—it’s about the connection.

West Orange has deep roots in Florida’s golfing legacy. The original West Orange Country Club was founded in 1915, nestled along Avalon Road. Its arched gateway—still standing today at what is now Tucker Ranch—marks the entrance to a storied past.
The club was the brainchild of Charles and Grace Mather-Smith of Oakland, who sought a more relaxed alternative to the formal atmosphere of the Orlando Country Club. Their vision included two orchestras to keep the dancing going non-stop—day and night!

Summer lovin’ starts retro style with The Garden Theatre coming back to life with its Summer Flix movie series, which runs through August. This is your chance to sit in the a/c, support the arts, and prove to the city we’re ready for curtain calls again.

After the movie, you’ll probably want something sweet—and wouldn’t you know it, Scoops Old Fashioned Ice Cream just got a new lease on life with new owners Jake and Taylor Brigham and Alex and Jessie Douglas. They’re not messing with the nostalgia—just adding extra sprinkles, longer hours, and fresh energy.

Now if you’re craving something stronger than a root beer float, Agave Bandido finally opened in Horizon West, and it’s already become ground zero for margarita-fueled selfies.

Trying to offset all the chips and queso? The new reformers at Carve Pilates in Horizon West are delivering a burn that leaves you stronger, leaner, and craving more.

Speaking of strength and stamina, let’s talk about Vibrant, the new nonprofit from Healthy West Orange. It’s aimed at adults 55+ who are ready to be called what they are: fabulous, fierce, and totally fit.

Plus, get ready—Hi-Lite Academy is coming to Plant Street this August, shaking up academics with fresh energy and creative programming. Of course, not everything is happening now—some delicious things are still on the 2026 horizon.

Like Swig bringing its candy-topped, syrup-stuffed soda creations to Hamlin.

And Seasons 52 coming to Winter Garden Village. We’re excited, too, but greatness takes time. Your taste buds are just going to have to be patient.

The community includes Horizon West Regional Park, a new Orange County Library branch opening this year, and new businesses opening every day.
