That sense of fun and belonging isn’t an accident—it’s exactly what co-founders and mother-daughter duo Rebecca Whitney and Alli Thompson set out to create. “You don’t have to be a star athlete to join us,” Alli says. “Beginners are always welcome—this is about showing up, trying something new, and finding your people. We have dozens of league options, players in their 20s, 30s, and even 60s, and people who’ve never played before. It’s all about creating a space where anyone can come out, have fun, and feel included.”

And it’s not just soccer anymore. Striker recently added Tuesday night cornhole, futsal (indoor soccer’s high-energy cousin), and has kickball and beginner-friendly pickleball on the horizon. “We want to give people options,” Alli says. “Some folks love the competition. Others just want to get out of the house and try something different.”

Then there are the social events—like Christmas in July and Halloween pub crawls, where costumes are not just welcomed but highly encouraged. “It reminds everyone not to take themselves too seriously,” Alli says. “There’s something really special about seeing people let loose, laugh together, and just enjoy the moment.”

Striker is woman- and veteran-owned and has been part of the local sports scene for over a decade. And with nearly 1,900 unique players, the community keeps growing. “At the end of the day, we want people to stay active, make friends, and just have a great time,” Alli says.
