Q: Could your shoes be the wrong size without you realizing it?

“The most common mistake people make when buying a new pair of running or walking shoes is finding the right shoe size,” says Kimberly Grogan, owner of Dash Sports. “I had a man come in the other day and I asked what size shoe he wears. He said 10 to 10.5. An hour later, he walked out smiling in a pair of perfectly fit size 11s.”

According to Kimberly, shoes that fit right will feel natural, almost like you have no shoes on at all. You should be able to wiggle your toes in the toe box. Have nothing pressing on your pressure points. No side-to-side movement. Cushioning in the forefoot should be comfortable. The best way, of course, is to have them fitted by professionals, like the experts at Dash Sports.

“No matter what the brand—HOKA, Brooks, New Balance, On, Saucony, or Asics—all our shoes are curated to be fitted, to solve a particular fit profile. A shoe that works for one person won’t necessarily work for another. We have podiatrists and physical therapists who send us patients all the time who desperately need a shoe that fits properly. That applies to sandals as well. We sell an excellent line of sandals from Aetrex and Oofos. It is Florida, after all.

“It’s so rewarding to see someone walk in with a cane and walk out without it. Yes, that really happens! It’s more than just selling shoes. Our goal at Dash Sports is to help people live their best, most active lives.”
